USDA Food Price Outlook for 2019 and 2020

The USDA released a recent report with 2019 food price data, along with food price predictions for 2020. From October 2018 to October 2019 overall food prices increased 2.1%. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for retail food purchases (food-at-home) was up 1.0%. The CPI for restaurant purchases (food-away-from-home) was up 3.3%.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture on Nov. 25 announced that the U.S. Department of Commerce, at the U.S.D.A.’s request, approved an additional 100,000 short tons, raw value, of refined sugar imports from Mexico during 2019-20 (October-September marketing year).

59% of adults prefer snacking to meals, Mondelez study finds

Snacking is preferred to eating meals for 59% of adults worldwide. For millennials, that figure jumps to 70%, according to Mondelez International’s “State of Snacking” report. The report was released on Monday and conducted with The Harris Poll.
