Top 5 ocean carriers serving US trades see export share slips

The Top 5 container lines serving the United States slightly increased their combined share of imports in 2017, but dominance of their exports receded. The 1 percentage point decline to 55.2 percent in export share among the Top 5 export carriers in 2017 – Maersk Group (Maersk Line, Hamburg Süd, and SeaLand), Mediterranean Shipping Co., CMA CGM/APL, Hapag-Lloyd, and Evergreen Line – is the first drop since 2012 and takes place after years of steady industry consolidation.
