High inventories nationwide continued to weigh down for-hire U.S. truck tonnage growth in January. While tonnage last month remained flat in year-over-year comparisons, volume fell 1.4 percent month-over-month, according to the American Trucking Associations’ For-Hire Truck Tonnage Index. “Clearly, 2016 started soft for truck tonnage,” ATA Chief Economist Bob Costello said in a statement.
