US trucking companies kept their hiring engines firing in August, adding 3,400 jobs, an increase of 1,500 jobs over the 1,900 gain now reported for July, US Bureau of Labor Statistics data released Friday showed. August was the second month of job gains in trucking after a five-month decline in employment, a sign US motor carriers are preparing for a busier fall shipping season.
